South Buffalo Railway is the story of a unique American industrial short line. This eight-mile-long railroad served the greater Buffalo, New York area. Serving the third-largest steel mill in America, Bethlehem Steel Company, it moved hundreds of thousands of tons of steel products for shipment all over the world. Author Stephan M. Koenig documents the South Buffalo from the start of operations in 1899 to the line's sale to Genesee & Wyoming Industries in 2001 using text and 150 historic photos. The book includes details of the mill's own narrow gauge line, plus a complete South Buffalo steam and diesel roster. This hard-working short line was possibly the most significant railroad in the state of New York.
